Princess Cruise Lines Sued for $1 Million for Botched Handling of Coronavirus

A couple from Broward County, Florida who are still quarantined inside the Grand Princess cruise ship – currently docked in Oakland, California – have filed a $1 Million Federal lawsuit in the U.S. District Court of Los Angeles against Princess Cruise Lines, accusing the company of gross negligence for having allowed them to be exposed to the COVID-19 virus.

From CNN:

“Ronald and Eva Weissberger, of Broward County, are seeking more than $1 million in damages from the cruise line, according to the lawsuit filed Monday in the United States District Court for the Central District of California in Los Angeles.

They are two of the more than 3,500 passengers and crew members aboard the cruise liner that was held off the coast of San Francisco for days after 21 people — two passengers and 19 crew members — tested positive for the illness.

Passengers began disembarking the vessel Monday. More passengers are expected to be removed from the ship Tuesday morning, according to an announcement from the ship’s captain.”

The couple are alleging that the ship’s crew set sail with sixty-two passengers on board, despite having knowledge that the ship may have been exposed to the virus by two prior passengers who had shown symptoms of infection.

None of the passengers were medically examined prior to boarding, and were only required to fill out a piece of paper confirming that they were not sick.

We will be monitoring the case as it proceeds, and will update with developments as they occur.
